Why You Need to Accept PayPal

There are several reasons you should accept PayPal through your Miva Merchant store, and they all lead to more money!

Many merchants don't consider the alternative payment method, thinking that many customers don't use it or don't know what it is. Or is it that merchants don't want the hassle of dealing with additional payment methods when it comes to accounting? Simply put, there's really no reason not to accept PayPal, which has become the #1 Online Payment Solution for auctions and web sites.

You've probably heard the horror stories about accounts being lost, money being dropped out of accounts, and hackers emptying the till. The simple truth is you can lose money through any account you don't protect. That means you don't give out your password, you transfer funds to your physical bank account often. Because, while we've read the stories, we have never, since the existence of PayPal, had one single customer come to us complaining about the service. In fact, nearly 95% of merchants who have added this additional payment method have seen an increase in sales (some slight, some large, but an increase nonetheless).

By accepting PayPal, you can:

  • cater to customers who normally only participate in online auction sites.
  • make customers who use PayPal feel more comfortable - some people don't want to give their credit card info to everyone, so they use one source, which may be PayPal.
  • save money. PayPal merchant rates are usually less than those associated with credit card merchant account fees.
  • save more money. Signup for the PayPal debit card and you'll get cash back when you use it like a credit card yourself.
  • get money faster. Our experience is about 2-3 days on bank deposits coming from direct transfers from a PayPal account.

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

While we strongly advise merchants to accept PayPal, we don't advise for merchants to use it as the only payment solution. PayPal should not replace an existing merchant account. It should be used as an add-on.

Steps to Accepting PayPal

First, you need to Sign Up to Accept PayPal. Sign up is free.

NOTE: Online merchants should become Premier or Business Accounts and should become verified before launching the PayPal Acceptance campaign.

You'll need a module to accept PayPal. One is included in Miva Merchant 4.14+ (though many prefer a third-party module with additional features). You'll find a PayPal Module at the DesignExtend.com Store.
